Biological Control
Tips and Prevention
The best way to protect ourselves from biting insects and diseases that they could be carrying is to adopt a responsible behaviour by minimizing our level of exposure. It is recommended to: wear tightly woven, light colored and long-sleeved clothes, shoes and socks and avoid exposure at dawn and dusk, periods where mosquitoes are the most active. If it is essential to go out when mosquitoes abound, wear a head net and use insect repellent.
You can also help reduce mosquito nuisance by eliminating any kind of stagnant water sources around your house. All hollow objects which accumulate and retain rainwater over a period of 7 to 10 days must be emptied (bird baths, derelict pools, barrels, old tires, etc.).
Of course, the implementation of a biological control program using the Bacillus thuringiensis Israelensis larvicide on a municipality scale is by far the best way to protect yourself from biting insects.
